This workshop was set in a lovely Devon valley, not far from Exeter. Embercombe is a community created to inspire and educate people in sustainability. Check out their website for more information. The beautiful yurts provided ideal spaces for people to work individually and in small groups as well as providing lovely, warm and dry accommodation for those staying for the full weekend. We had several beginners and taught them Kelefa Ba as is traditional, adding the clap pattern and the song to add interest and enjoyment. It was lovely having people around who were not actually on the course as they joined in with the singing and clapping, creating a really nice atmosphere. The more advanced players were able to get individual tuition, working on particular songs, but also worked together in small groups and pairs, able to help and inspire each other which is an aspect of the workshops they really enjoy. The space and time to dedicate themselves to this beautiful instrument, with support and instruction where needed is much-appreciated.
